As a valued member of the team, you will have the skills to manage your own projects and continue your development journey.
As a graduate you will be part of an experienced project team, delivering innovative and sustainable solutions to a wide variety of clients.
We will provide you with a technical mentor who will oversee your training programme and a buddy to support your introduction to work and help you navigate the company and our systems. You will shadow experienced engineers on site to gain invaluable site experience and site management training.
Alongside the structured grad programme, you will join regular team or company-wide activity sessions, including technical training, team building and wellbeing sessions.
Our leaders are always on hand too, offering an open-door policy to anyone who needs help, support or guidance.
The life of an engineer is a varied one. One day you could be in the office and the next day you could be out onsite early drilling boreholes and obtaining samples for analysis. The next week you could be writing a report or researching new concepts. Variety is the key within geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering which means that you need to be proactive, resilient, adaptable and enjoy problem solving!
This week we will introduce you to our company. You’ll get to find out where we work, who the team is, who your line manager will be and how our systems work. We’ll use this week to ensure all compliance paperwork is completed with you and get you kitted out with office supplies, equipment, safety gear and site wear.
We want to make sure that you settle in well, so during weeks 2 – 4 we’ll be showing you how things are done and ensure that you cover core training such as site safety and basic safety awareness training, including asbestos, UXO and confined spaces.
During these months you’ll start to get to grips with buried service avoidance and staying safe on site. You’ll have an introduction to soil logging to British Standards, soil and groundwater sampling, gas monitoring and a variety of ground investigation techniques. You’ll be able to put your skills to the test whilst shadowing site engineers on site and in the office and try your hand at writing factual reports.
We hope that during these months we’ll be able to expose you to a variety of sites and develop you from shadowing to leading site operations for a variety of methods including cable and tool percussive drilling, windowless sampling, trial pits and more. This is the exciting bit where you can learn about the process from start to finish and assist team members to complete the full cycle of projects.
After 12 months, you’ll get the opportunity to start to hone your skills, gaining experience on various sites of varying complexity, and gain end to end knowledge of the project. We can help you to develop technical skills to enable soil infiltration calculation, pavement design, foundation design and analysis of laboratory testing.
Starting on the graduate training scheme has been a really great transition from my degree into the engineering world. Since starting at Soiltechnics, I have learnt so much and have grown as an individual to a point where I can now confidently run my own ground investigations and write up the fundamentals of geoenvironmental and geotechnical reports.
The graduate training scheme has helped me to grow in confidence on site and gain good technical knowledge. We work on a huge variety of sites – from football pitches to major developments in London. Everyone is very willing to answer questions and provide support. Now, with almost three years’ experience, I enjoy being a mentor to new graduates as others were for me.
After my interview, I instantly knew Soiltechnics was the right place for me, as everyone was very welcoming and friendly. When I received the offer I accepted straight away and relocated to Kettering. The relocation and introduction to the working world was overwhelming at first, going from university life to being in an office or being out on site was a big lifestyle change.
